2024 Theme: “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps”
Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It occurs when the body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or can’t use insulin effectively, leading to high levels of sugar in the blood.
There are two main types of diabetes – type 1 and type 2.
– Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults and is not preventable.
– Type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, is more common in adults and is often linked to lifestyle factors such as poor diet and lack of physical activity.
Both types of diabetes require lifelong management, including monitoring blood sugar levels, making healthy food choices, and staying active.
Increased awareness about diabetes is crucial in promoting early detection, prevention, and proper management of the disease to reduce the risk of complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, and nerve damage.
By educating ourselves and others about diabetes, we can help improve the quality of life for those living with the condition and work towards a healthier future for all.
